Live English University
Live English is an idea, a philosophy. It is based on a simple concept which is formed on a single question.
“How do I improve my English, to a point where I am confident in my ability to not only survive with but also and communicate and make friends with other English speakers?”
How do you improve your English?
Simple question but the answer is not so simple.
Talk with foreigners.
This brings a new set of problems and questions.
How? Where do I find them? I can’t just approach a stranger on the street.
No, you can’t.
The best way to improve your English (I have been asked the question a thousand times) is to go abroad and immerse yourself in a country where English is spoken. That, however, is easier said than done. It’s not an easy thing to pack your life up in a suitcase and head off, leaving everything behind.
At Only Live University, we bring English to you. The teachers are all native speakers from interesting and exotic foreign countries. Ha ha, at least, I like to think I am exotic. (I am a New Zealander-have you ever met one before?)... ... more >采访视频>

Week One: Example Exercise 2. The Culture of Education (Elected Speaker Discussion)
After spending quite a bit of time in China, both in the public sector (university) and private sector (Only) I have come to see that there are many differences between Eastern and Western educational culture.
First I want to hear your ideas, and then I will tell you mine.
1. Cheating: Is it acceptable?
2. Plagiarism: Sharing ideas, is it ok? (example “movie review”)
3. Independent work: How much freedom are you given? Is it enough?
4. Encouraging creativity: Why is creativity important?
5. Critical thinking: What is the best way to activate student’s critical thinking abilities?
6. Materials for creativity and critical thinking? Arts or Sciences? Why should we use poetry, paintings and books?
In this exercise, individual groups of students (2-3 students per group) will discuss the questions above. Students take turns presenting the ideas of the group to the teacher and class. The questions include some difficult concepts (that have been touched on previously) in which the students must express themselves as creatively as they possibly can. The questions relate to previous work and themes carried out earlier in the week.
